Rumours of Whiskey Ceilidh Band

Welcome

Ann McCarthy, Trevor Sommers, Tim Fearon, Dave Sissons

For folk concerts, ceilidhs, barn dances etc. We play reels, jigs, polkas, hornpipes etc from England, Scotland, Ireland, Scandinavia, USA and Canada. We are based in the Sheffield region in South Yorkshire, England, UK.

Ann McCarthy comes from an Irish background (County Kerry); she is approaching her 20th year and plays button accordeon and whistle. Ann is a former Irish step-dance champion and also writes a number of jigs and reels. She is presently working before going to University. Tim Fearon plays whistle and flute. A regular on the local session scene. Tim is also a part-time nurse. Dave Sissons plays guitar and mandolin and has a fine ear for a good tune. Dave is responsible for many of the band arrangements and for deciphering the tunes. Trevor Sommers plays tenor banjo and guitar and also edits the local folk magazine, Stirrings.

We recently released a cassette album - DUTY FREE -which was well received and is still selling well at our gigs. A track listing for the album is available as is part of the sleeve notes detailing the start of Irish session music in Sheffield. We are also hoping to add a selection of some of the more unusual tunes to be found on our album.
